Volunteer contributions are a vital tradition at Colonial Williamsburg. Reenactors and living history volunteers are greatly encouraged to join us for our Reenactor Weekends.

To Heed Washington’s Call: Virginians Prepare to March North.  

To Heed Washington's Call, will highlight the Virginia Line in Williamsburg as they prepare to join Washington's army during the crisis of 1776. After spending the summer of driving Lord Dunmore from Virginia, the 7th Virginia Regiment remained in the Commonwealth longer than other forces, as they re-equipped for the campaigns yet to come. Guests will be immersed in a multifaceted Williamsburg at war, not only highlighting the soldiers, but also the substantial civilian contribution to outfit and equip the army. The event will highlight the unique importance of the Williamsburg Public Store, the people who interacted with it, and the men who marched from it in service of a common cause. 

Acceptable impressions for this event are intentionally wider in scope, to reflect the varied units that were in flux, both entering and leaving Williamsburg, in the fall of 1776. While the Military Programs staff will continue to interpret as Crockett’s rifle company of the 7th Virginia Regiment, and encourage all who are able to do the same, variations in impression (2nd Virginia, 8th Virginia, Regiment of Artillery, new recruits or civilians) are welcome for this event.
