Group Evening Programs
The fun doesn’t end when the sun goes down.
You can choose a variety of activities ranging from drama and dance to music and evening walking tours. Put your best foot forward as you learn why dance was "the dearest diversion" of colonial Virginians. Discover the arts and mysteries of the trades, march with the soldiers preparing for war, hear a story and learn a moral or two, or find clues and treasures in the ground.
Colonial Dance
Virginians will dance or die," wrote an 18th-century diarist. What better time than the 21st century to learn a few "new" dance steps and experience one of the favorite pastimes of colonial Virginians. Learn about different types of popular dances, discover the role of dance in 18th-century society, and perhaps participate in the fun.
In Defense of Our Liberty
Enlist in the Continental Army at the Magazine. Become a new recruit and see what it was like to be a soldier in the 18th century.
Revolutionary Points of View
It’s the eve of the American Revolution and there are just as many opinions about war and independence as we hear about politics and religion today. Step back in time and encounter points of view that run the gamut. Then, engage in the most important debate in our nation’s history – you will decide whether we remain British or become Americans
Trial of a Patriot
America's War for Independence has failed, and the leaders of the American Revolution are charged with treason. Participate in this alternative-history trial, where you question witnesses, weigh the evidence, and determine the fate of an American Patriot.
Papa Said, Mama Said
While enslaved, African Americans continued to pass their cultural morals and values from generation to generation. Participate in this delightful, interactive program as instructive fables come to life, celebrating the significance of oral African tradition.
Haunted Williamsburg
Telling ghost stories in the darkness of night is a centuries-old tradition. Experience Haunted Williamsburg, the ONLY ghost tour that goes inside historic buildings! From authentic 18th-century colonial ghost stories to creepy modern-day encounters, costumed storytellers share unnerving tales.
Cry Witch
During this dramatized inquiry into the charges of witchcraft brought against Grace Sherwood in 1706, the audience is invited to question the witnesses, weigh the evidence, and determine the guilt or innocence of “The Virginia Witch.” (recommended for high school students)
