The first large-scale expansion and upgrade to the building that houses The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation’s two world-class museums — the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum and the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum — broke ground in April 2017. The 65,000-square-foot expansion, which began in September 2017, offers guests an enhanced visitor experience, and the opportunity to view more of the collection than ever before.
The new guest-friendly entrance welcomes visitors to the new lobby, museum café, and museum store. Beyond the orientation area, a grand concourse provides access to both museums. The Art Museums will celebrate the opening of the expanded and upgrades space throughout 2020 with new exhibitions in our seven new galleries where we can display objects from our collections that have spent too much time in storage.
