Take a guided tour through Custis Square, where archaeologists are excavating the four-acre property of John Custis IV. Learn about his time in the burgeoning capital city of Williamsburg and what our previous excavations have revealed about the wealthy statesman. Talk with archaeologists in the field about what the current excavation can tell us about Custis' garden landscape and the enslaved men and women who built and maintained it.
Site tours meet at the corner of Francis and Nassau Streets and last approximately one hour. Open to visitors of all ages.
The terrain is grassy and may be difficult for wheelchairs. Weather permitting. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Free reservation required. Space is limited for this program. To book your reservation, please visit a ticket office or call our Guest Services at (888) 965-7254.
